Gopi Dots: Embodying Tradition in Body Art
The Gopis are the simple village girls of Vrindavan – the hometown and playground of Krishna. Their exclusive concern is pleasing Krishna, so they like to beautify themselves with delicate body art named after them. Our artists follow in the footsteps of these spiritual personalities and have become skilled in the colorful dots, dashes, and petals that make up the strokes of Gopi dots. These dots are usually painted on the face around the eyes and on the forehead, adding a touch of tradition and spirituality to one’s appearance.

Henna
Henna, or Mehndi, as it is also known in this part of the world, is an art of festivity. Traditionally, girls and women decorate their hands and feet with intricate patterns, carefully applied using the all-natural paste of the Henna plant. The paste produces a rich, reddish-brown hue on the skin which lingers for a number of days or even weeks as a temporary tattoo. You’ll need a little more patience for this art, because once applied to the skin, the paste needs to dry completely and flake off to reveal the imprint. It will darken over a day or two and then slowly fade over a couple of weeks, creating a lovely, lingering reminder of your festival experience.

Havan – fire ceremony
Havan or Agni Hotra, an ancient ritual, involves expert priests making ceremonial offerings to a sacred fire while chanting Vedic mantras. The fire, when performed properly, serves as a divine conduit, transmitting prayers and offerings to the spiritual realm. Engaging all senses, the event offers captivating sights, smells, and sounds. Each offering—ghee, grains, fruits, and herbs—holds deep symbolic significance, while the chanting purifies the mind, body, soul, and environment. Typically reserved for special occasions, Havan yields diverse benefits, fostering mental balance, good fortune, and overall well-being. Join us in this beautiful ceremony.
